Return & Replacements policy

The Heartbreak Academy is a tradename of It Starts With A Story Media.

The Return & Replacements policy applies to the physical products sold by The Heartbreak Academy and printed by the print-on-demand service of Printful.

What should I do if my order is lost or damaged in the mail?

If your order hasn’t arrived 30 days after the estimated delivery date, or if it arrives damaged, you can contact us right away at info@itstartswithastory.com. We’ll work with our fulfillment partner to investigate, and if the package is confirmed lost or arrives defective, we’ll cover the cost of sending a replacement.

To speed things up, we may ask you to:

  • Double-check the shipping address entered at checkout.

  • Contact your local post office to see if the package is being held or mis-routed.

  • If the tracking shows “Delivered” but you can’t find the package, we unfortunately can’t cover a free replacement, because we have no way to verify the loss. You’re welcome to place a new order if you’d like us to reship.


Can I return or exchange an item if I change my mind or ordered the wrong size?

Because each item is made on demand, we’re not able to accept returns or exchanges for change of mind, incorrect sizing, or ordering the wrong product. We don’t keep extra inventory to exchange with, and many returned products cannot be resold for hygiene and quality reasons.

To help avoid sizing issues, we recommend double-checking the size charts before ordering.

What if my item arrives defective or misprinted?

If your order arrives with a manufacturing issue, misprint, or damage, we’ll replace it at no cost to you. Just email us within 30 days of delivery at info@itstartswithastory.com with:

  • Your ordernumber

  • Clear photos of the issue


Once confirmed, we’ll send a replacement without requiring you to return the faulty product.

Why can’t you reship most returns?

Many of our products are printed and packaged specifically per order. Returned items often can't be resold due to:

  • Opened or worn packaging

  • Hygiene concerns

  • Signs of use or wear


To maintain quality and safety standards, these items are not restocked.

What if I typed the wrong shipping address?

If the order has not yet shipped, we can usually update the address. Contact us as soon as possible.

If the order has already shipped:

  • Sometimes the carrier can still deliver if the error is small.

  • If the package is returned to us, we’ll notify you.

  • You’ll have 30 days to provide an updated address and cover the cost of reshipping.
